Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar, an Indian-born British American musician and sitarist, is well known for her musical talents. She is also the youngest and first woman to receive a British House of Commons Award. Anoushka Sitar Shankar is an Indian young sitar singer. She is a student as well as daughter of the famous Ravi Shankar. She was a child who bounded between London in the UK to New Delhi. In the age of thirteen she performed her first show on stage in New Delhi. After that, she moved to Encinitas CA where she graduated from High School with honours in 1999. Anouskha is still a young woman, nevertheless, she has an impressive career in music and performance. She has been performing with her father on stage for several years. She released her first single album Anourag in the year 1998. Two years later she released the Grammy nominated album Live on stage at Carnegie Hall. The stage work she has done is broad as she's performed in most of the biggest venues in the world. Her career doesn't just include the world of music. Bapi the Love of My Live, a biographical picture written in tribute to her father Ravi Shankar was published in 2002. Also, she appeared in film in 2003. The role she played was that of as a Bharat natyam dancer in Dance Like a Man. Anoushka's career is still developing and she'll continue to achieve great success in the future. Anoushka Shankar was born and raised in England and spent the majority of her early years in London and Delhi later relocating to California where she attended the high school. Anoushka started her music studies at age nine. Four years later she performed her music debut with the sitar Delhi at her father's 75th birthday celebration. Anoushka had the opportunity to acquire many valuable experiences by accompanying her dad on his world tour. It included performances at Carnegie Hall and at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festivals and recording alongside George Harrison. She was the youngest woman to be awarded the House of Commons Shield, presented by British Parliament in recognition of her musical talent and artistic ability within the Asian Arts.
